Publishers Weekly

“GrubHub cofounder [Mike Evans’] illuminating debut, an account of how the food delivery service grew from a scrappy start-up to a multibillion-dollar company. Evans is frank about the challenges he faced as the company grew…This punchy memoir delivers.”

About the Book

Mike Evans wanted a pizza, but getting a pizza was a pain in the neck. Insightful and hilarious, HANGRY candidly follows Mike’s personal journey from the excitement of creating something new to the satisfaction of changing the way America eats, and then ultimately, to the horror of seeing GrubHub turn from its roots to become a byword for exploitation in the restaurant industry. Increasingly suffering from anger and frustration, Mike's rage quits the company he started, leaving it all behind to ride a bike across the United States in a longshot attempt to regain his sanity and find a new purpose.

Vision matters. This is the message of Hangry. Not only does vision matter, but a personal vision matters. It's hard, but that's OK because hard things have big rewards. Having vision makes hard things easy. Hangry is my memoir through the GrubHub startup, leading it to an IPO and then punting it to ride my bike across the country. I talk about how startups and cross-country bike trips are insane and that they’re fun too.

Meet the Author

Mike Evans founded GrubHub in his spare bedroom and grew it into the multi-billion-dollar online food delivery colossus that is a household name. After leaving GrubHub post-IPO, he punted it all to ride his bike across the United States. His book about the journey, Hangry: A Startup Journey, came out in November 2022.

More recently, Mike founded, an on-demand handyperson B-corp that trains its employees from scratch. Mike is passionate about professional and personal vision and a strong proponent of impact businesses - for-profit companies that use their power to bring about positive social change.
